Overview
Scanly (“Scanly”, “we”, “us” or “our”) builds a food-scanning app that helps you understand how processed the food you buy is. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We built Scanly to be private by default: most of what you do stays on your device.
Information we collect
We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the app:
- Scan and product data: the barcodes and products you scan are used to fetch and display results. Your scan history and favorites are stored locally on your device.
- Preferences you provide: foods to avoid, dietary restrictions, allergens and symptoms you choose during setup, used to personalize the flags you see.
- Health metrics you log: optional daily entries such as anxiety, sleep, energy and weight, stored on your device so you can track changes over time.
- Contact details: if you email us or sign up for updates, we receive the email address and any message you send.
- Basic technical data: anonymous diagnostics and crash information to keep the app stable.
Camera permission
Scanly requests access to your camera for the sole purpose of scanning food barcodes. Camera frames are processed to read the barcode and are not stored or transmitted for any other purpose. You can revoke camera access at any time in your device settings.
How we use information
- To display product scores, ingredient breakdowns and additive information.
- To personalize the alerts and flags shown to you based on your stated preferences.
- To let you track how you feel over time through the health-metrics feature.
- To respond to your support requests and send updates you opt into.
- To maintain, secure and improve the app.
What we do not do
We do not sell your personal information. We do not partner with food brands, and we never accept payment to change a product’s score. We do not use your health metrics for advertising.
Sharing and third parties
We share information only with service providers that help us operate the app — for example, hosting, product-database and crash-reporting providers — and only as needed to provide the service. These providers are bound to protect your information. We may also disclose information if required by law.
Data retention
Data stored locally on your device remains until you delete it or uninstall the app. Information you send us by email is kept only as long as needed to help you and meet our legal obligations.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Because most data lives on your device, you can clear it directly in the app or by uninstalling. For anything held by us, contact us at support@aifoodscanner.net.
Children’s privacy
Scanly is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice.
