Terms of Service

Last updated July 9, 2026

Agreement to terms

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Scanlymobile app and website (together, the “Service”). By downloading, accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

Medical disclaimer

Scanly is a food-checker app, and all content and information it provides are strictly for educational and general informational purposes only. It is not a substitute for consulting a healthcare professional, such as a nutritionist or doctor. Nothing in the Service is intended as professional advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Product scores are a clear, at-a-glance view of food quality — not a precise medical measurement. Always seek the advice of a qualified provider with any questions about a medical condition, allergy or diet.

License to use the app

Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable license to use the Service for your own non-commercial use.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms.
  • Copy, scrape, resell or redistribute our scores, data or content without permission.
  • Attempt to reverse engineer, interfere with or disrupt the Service or its security.
  • Submit false, misleading or infringing content when adding or reporting products.

Accuracy of information

We work hard to provide accurate, science-based information drawn from trusted public-health sources. However, product formulations change and databases can contain errors. We do not warrant that all information is complete, current or error-free, and we do not score every product — items missing the data we need are labeled “Not scored,” and we do not score alcoholic beverages. If you rely on the Service for allergen or dietary decisions, always confirm against the physical product packaging.

User contributions

If you add products or report an issue, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free license to use, store and display that content to operate and improve the Service. You are responsible for the content you submit and confirm you have the right to share it.

Intellectual property

The Service, including its scoring method, software, design, text and branding, is owned by Scanly and protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not transfer any ownership rights to you.

Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Scanly and its team will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or any loss arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service.

Third-party stores

Your download and use of the app may also be subject to the terms of the Apple App Store or Google Play. Those stores are not responsible for the Service and are not parties to these Terms.

Changes to the Service and Terms

We may modify or discontinue features, and may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the revised Terms.
